‘What is growth?’ is the central question in my work now. Different forms of growth have inspired me to evolve my paintings again and again. I went from the shadows of grapes to very resilient seeds that regrow after bush fires to more abstract movement along mathematical structures. The forms that arise carry associations with reality. Besides paintings I have made site-specific works, movies and 3d animations that also relate to this theme. In recent paintings I see growth as a consequence of adding small touches until forms start to appear. A little touch in one part of the painting can change a form completely in another part. This way a painting sometimes acts like an ecosystem on its own where form and color can interact unexpectedly. For the time the painting is growing I am part of this ecosystem of actions so to say. I am exploring this process and I am curious to where it leads me.
